This article raises many major up-to date arguments, both for and against nuclear power.  Some important points include that USA, the worlds largest consumer of electricity, produces 20% of its electricity using only just over 100 nuclear power stations.  New technologies now allow for previously dangerous nuclear waste can now be re-used continuously, limiting the amount of dangerous chemicals and elements from being released into the environment.

 
This article states that nuclear power is not bad as a concept, but bad in the way that i has and will be put into use.  Nuclear accidents are almost always unpredictable, and as so, its impossible to state that nuclear energy is better or worse to the environment then alternative methods.
